U.s. Home Prices Have Risen Much Faster Than Wages

Business Highlights - ABC News

housing markets during the housing recovery of the past two years, according to a new report released Thursday by real estate data firm RealtyTrac. The report also found home price appreciation across the U.S. outpaced wage growth by a 13:1 ratio. Median wages increased 1.3% between the second quarter of 2012, when home prices bottomed out and started rising again, and the second quarter of 2014. Meanwhile home prices increased 17% in the two years ending in December 2014. "Home prices in many housing markets across the country found a floor in 2012 and since then have rapidly appreciated, particularly in markets attracting institutional investors, international buyers or some other flavor of cash buyer not constrained by income as much as traditional buyers," said Daren Blomquist, vice president at RealtyTrac. "Eventually, however, those traditional buyers will need to play a bigger role in the housing market for the recovery to maintain its momentum. "Those markets with the biggest disconnect between price growth and wage growth during the last two years are most likely to see plateauing home prices in 2015 until wages catch up," Blomquist added. RealtyTrac analyzed data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as well as home sales data in 184 metropolitan statistical areas across the United States for the report.

Business & Professional Women of Sterling holds successful 'Death by Chocolate' fundraiser - Journal Advocate

Heinz Co. announced plans Wednesday to buy Kraft and create one of the world's largest food and beverage companies. The deal would bring together an array of longtime staples in American kitchens, including Oscar Mayer lunchmeats, Jell-O desserts, Miracle Whip spreads, Ore-Ida potatoes and Smart Ones diet foods. Science, patients driving rare disease drug research surge TRENTON, N.J. (AP) The global pharmaceutical industry is pouring billions of dollars into developing treatments for rare diseases, which once drew little interest from major drugmakers but now point the way toward a new era of innovative therapies and big profits. The investments come as researchers harness recent scientific advances, including the mapping of the human genome, sophisticated and affordable genetic tests and laboratory robots that can screen thousands of compounds per hour in search of the most potent ones. AP Investigation: Is the fish you buy caught by slaves? BENJINA, Indonesia (AP) The Burmese slaves sat on the floor and stared through the rusty bars of their locked cage, hidden on a tiny tropical island thousands of miles from home. Just a few yards away, other workers loaded cargo ships with slave-caught seafood that clouds the supply networks of major supermarkets, restaurants and even pet stores in the United States. Here, in the Indonesian island village of Benjina and the surrounding waters, hundreds of trapped men represent one of the most desperate links criss-crossing between companies and countries in the seafood industry. This intricate web of connections separates the fish we eat from the men who catch it, and obscures a brutal truth: Your seafood may come from slaves.

2015 Pioneer Elite Home Theater Receivers Incorporated with Install-Friendly Features Plus Newest Techs Including Dolby Atmos - Yahoo Finance

The employee, Kirk Soccorso, said he wasn't aware that "Isis", name of an Egyptian goddess, also denotes the Islamic State - a terrorist Sunni Muslim group that has captured swathes of Iraq and Syria, and has beheaded several western hostages. The group is being targeted by an international coalition led by the U.S. According to the reports, Kirk Soccorso, working as a Home Depot tool demonstrator in Patchogue, New York, during a casual conversation overheard the term "Isis" and showed his tattoo to a co-worker. Consequently, he was fired from his job. "I feel a little lost," Soccorso was reported to have told News 12 Long Island. "It was a good-paying job." Soccorso says he is not a terrorist and that he got the tattoo four years ago, adding he is no longer with his girl friend who bears the name "Isis." Soccorso said it was never his intention to scare anyone when he showed the tattoo. Soccorso is reportedly considering legal action against Home Depot. Meanwhile Home Depot spokesman Stephen Holmes told News 12 that the termination was a personnel matter and the decision wasn't just based on the tattoo. Incidentally, "Isis" is the second track on the 1976 Bob Dylan album Desire, a sprawling song about a man's separation from his lady. So, there may be some Dylan die-hards out there with an awkward tat they don't show off anymore. by RTT Staff Writer

We have been paying above minimum wage all these years, Dickey said. But after a rally at the State Capitol on Tuesday, threemembers from the home care group 6Beds Inc., have had US Department of Labor agents inspect their homes during a surprise audit which forced those facilities to close. We pay minimum wage, we pay overtime, but we cannot pay 24 hours, said Gina Wasdyke, the 6Beds founder and director. Wasdyke said many of her members fear they will be next, making them strongly consider shutting down before they are fined by the Department of Labor. I would say 80% that Ive spoken with that if this department of labor continues to enforce a 24 hour pay theres no way they can survive, Wasdyke said. While Dickeys live-in employees would like to see an increase in wages, they told FOX40 not at the cost of hurting the business they work for. I just dont want to close the facility, said nurse Estalita Cailing, who lives at one of Dickeys propertys.
